The Silver Birch Theatre - The Song of The Woodland - Landscape Photography
During this video I explore the Silver Birch tree's history, uses and song. This is a photography tutorial vlog that not only meticulously guides you through the art of capturing stunning, breathtaking images but also weaves in inspiring, thought-provoking poetry to fuel your creative spirit.
In addition, this tutorial shares intriguing, lesser-known woodland facts that will deepen your appreciation for the natural world, and immerses you in the enchanting, soothing sounds of the forest using a unique, innovative device from Music of the Plants.
After reading your comments, I’ve decided to create something special to help others find their focus and flow with photography. 'The Silver Birch Theatre' by Suzannah Mary
The Silver Birch woodland, a crowded theatre
It's long slender bones emerge from the bracken.
It’s breast bare, it’s shoulders broad
A spectrum of Emerald Green fluttering in the light
arabesque, Tendu, pirouette
Their branches hold each pose gracefully
Snow White trunk, swan lake. Baltic dance
The Birch performs, it’s roots entangled with the earth below
Fertile soil, saturated ground.
Heart shaped droplets dangling elegantly
As the leaves dance softly in the breath of the wind

    Nice vlog Suzannah lovely words as usual. The birch is an amazing tree all so known as the lady of the woods. The first consonant or the ogham alphabet and first month of the Celtic tree calendar . This tree symbolises renewal, protection the tree of Inception and New beginnings I could go on. A great tree to photograph in the autumn while it sheds its yellow leaf's to sleep for the winter. Good work....

    I wonder if these trees are in the same family as our Aspens here in the US where in particular in some canyon forests of the Eastern California Sierras and parts of the Colorado Rockies there are miles of these silver white trees that have leaves all turn a bright yellow and some orange colors in the autumn season, making for amazing opportunities for vibrant images especially against deep blue skies and alpine mountains. I'm no botanist or dendrologist so by visual comparisons I'm guessing they are.

    • @FocusFlowBySuzannahMary
      @FocusFlowBySuzannahMary 2 дні тому

      Sounds like they are, I wonder what your Aspen were used for. I am really excited to shoot this area in Autumn, I could spend days here. There are some really interesting tree shapes and formations. I can image the alpine mountains is a stunning backdrop 🙏⛰️

      @artsilva 2 дні тому

      @@FocusFlowBySuzannahMary I have no idea what Aspens are used for but I assume it's the same as silver birch. You do have awesome photo opps with the different and unique shapes of trees where you are, here we have to really search for that. Yes, the mountain backdrops really makes these trees stand out in the fall months. 🍁

    Another interesting video. The Birch sap can be drunk as is like you said, but can also be turned into sugar, syrup, wine, beer. The bark can be used to make tinder for fire lighting and if thick enough be used to make cups, bowls, plates etc and even canoes if the tree is big enough which is unlikely in the UK.

    That poem reminds me of a similar song; The Trees, by the band Rush. It's about the resilience of the Oak Tree against the mighty Maples, which can also be a metaphor for life. What an interesting device. This would be great to use during a forest photoshoot where it would be like you are actually communicating with your subject just as you would with a human model during a shoot... and the project plans, wow, I wish you all the best on that. Two things - you’re the only photography UA-camr that takes a child along with them for the ride. If time is a constraint, then use it to your advantage. There are plenty of people who doddle when making images. You’ve got to see and make images quickly to placate your captive audience of one. Lean into both of these things. Rebrand yourself if necessary as the mother with child photographer who practices speed reading of a scene/composition. Turn what you perceive as a disadvantage into your strength. There are plenty of photographers out there that feel they don’t have the time to get out and photograph. Be the inspiration to them to show that they can make images with the few spare moments that they have in a day or week.

  • @MSACoachMike

    The old-school way to do it back in the film days was to use hand-hold a speed light on minimal power and use the flash to paint the scene. (Multiple pops of the flash and paint with the speed light like it were a torch.) That would hopefully take care of the wind movement.

    Hi Suzannah - I think you just need to be honest with yourself, continue your approach to your photography with the intentions & purpose and the same passion now that you had at the beginning, believe in yourself knowing that you like your images and does it really matter what others think? I suffer with imposter syndrome, I would bet most creatives do, but when this raises its ugly head I tell myself that I really like my image making and that's all that matters. I really enjoy watching quality videos that reflect a photographers passion so I'd rather see quality & honesty over quantity but poor quality. Enjoy exploring and image making 😎 Stu

    Looks like a beautiful place - so many photo opportunities! In woodlands one of my main 'strategies' is to look for color separation even if most of it is green. The silver color of the birches can really help with that, or the yellow of mosses. I think I would have taken most of the shots wider and in landscape orientation, but thanks for taking us again on a nice walk 🙂

    🙏 Dear Suzannah, some ideas: take just one step at a time. There is just The Now (Eckhart Tolle). I walk the same round just near my house twice a week. Even after 4 years I come home with different pictures. And one in 10 is good. I discover scenic places I never knew of (just 5 minute walking from home). And I bought recently a monochrome camera: that is comforting, easy, beautiful and joyful. I have no urge to share or sell the images..... its just for fun and a good reason to walk around. (Most people buy a dog, to get out).... take your time ( its already yours anyway)... oh and if your son ask attention on the moment you want to make the picture. Take a quick snapshot of what you saw. You’ ll get your time later. And it might be a good practice to fotograph quickly from instinct.

    Hi Suzannah! I'm sorry for correcting you, but that bird you heard was actually a Blackcap! (There's always one smart-arse isn't there?) I've been bird-watching and listening for about 20 years, so I've had a lot of practice! 😁😁You watch, somebody else will comment now, "That's not a Blackcap you idiot! It's a....!)

    Enjoyable video. Certainly plenty of potential in that woodland. Autumn could be interesting. The bird you mentioned at the beginning was a Blackcap btw.

    Suzannah, are you an imposter? Absolutely not. Do not judge yourself by those that do not like what you do. Nobody pleases everyone. First of all, do you enjoy what you do? It sounds like it. And secondly, are there viewers of your "product" (images or videos) that like it? Yep. Is the "quality" of the "art" "good enough" ? Now that is the question of the ages. The beauty of the art is in the eye of the beholder. Woodland photography is really hard for me, I don't do much of it. I really like it when I see someone succeed and get great images that I am unable to see. I have done some mushroom photography, really enjoyed it, and am looking forward to how you approach it, and seeing the resulting images. You do great work. You put words to the art, and you do a great job doing so. I especially appreciate your words of inspiration and encouragement. You have a much better way with words than I.

      Yes I do really enjoy it, thanks for your comment. I am really excited to give it a go, I did it a while ago and really enjoyed it. I'm keen to keep exploring the woodland here, stay tuned for more videos to come 👍 I can't wait for mushroom season

    Dropped on your channel today from a UA-cam recommendation. Definitely resonates with me as I constantly doubt myself with my photography.

    Great video, I get Imposter syndrome all the time, as I'm sure many photographers do. Id recommend hiring a macro lens to try out, lenses for hire are a great company, no deposit and cheaper than the rest. I've got the nikkor 105f2.8 macro lens and is brilliant

      Thanks, I will check out the lens hire. I've tried one I borrowed this week and really enjoyed it. I think we all feel it from time to time and it's good to shed light on it for all to engage in this subject and see they aren't alone
